Using Spotlight as a launcher Click to see a larger image
Spotlight is a great tool for finding files, email messages, contacts, and about anything else on your hard drive.
One use of Spotlight you may not have thought of is to use Spotlight to quickly find and open apps that aren't on the Dock.
To use Spotlight as an application launcher:
Activate Spotlight by either clicking on the Spotlight icon on the far right of the menu bar (it looks like a small magnifying glass) or using the shortcut key
command-spacebar.
Type in the beginning of the name of the application you want to launch. It will probably be the Top Hit on the list, or at the very least, near the top of the list.
Try using Spotlight to launch some of these application that probably are not on your Dock:
Chess
Calculator
Dictionary
Stickies
Using Spotlight to find applications is a lot faster and easier than going to your Applications folder and looking through it.
