Creating a DVD of an iPhoto Slideshow
An easy way to make a simple slideshow DVD
NOTE: This tip requires that your computer has a SuperDrive, which many older Macs do not have. How to tell if my Mac has a SuperDrive

To create a DVD of an iPhoto slideshow, you must first follow the setup instructions in this tip.

To create a DVD of the iPhoto Slideshow, we are going to use a small feature of iDVD that lets you create a DVD from a single movie. This DVD will not have any sort of menu structure. Rather it will just play when you insert it into a DVD player.

  1. Launch iDVD.
  2. Go to File / One Step DVD from movie... from the menu bar.
  3. Navigate to the iPhoto Slideshows folder inside your Pictures folder [iPhoto '09] or your Movies folder [iPhoto '08] and select the file that has the same name as your iPhoto slideshow.
  4. Insert a DVD into the Drive. iDVD will write your slide show to the DVD.
  5. When the DVD pops out, insert it into the regular DVD player connected to a TV and enjoy.
DVD slideshows make great gifts for friends or family members.

This sounds fine but I've used 12 MP images from a Nikon D90, they look great on a 27" iMac. However, transfer to DVD to play on a 46" Sony Bravia and the results look pixelated and jaggy. Tried loads of different things e.g. using iMovie instead etc. but the results are the same - awful. Look this up in any Mac Newsgroup and loads of people have the same complaint.

Hi--

That is because iDVD can't export HD. Playing an iDVD disc on my regular SD TV doesn't look all that great, I'm afraid.

While you can create an HD movie in iMovie, iDVD has not been updated to CREATE an HD DVD or Blue Ray.

Check out Toast from Roxio. It will burn HD. I've never used it myself but it gets good reviews.

I spent 2 days making a slideshow on iphoto with 3 songs from itunes. IHave created a slideshow not in albums but in a new tab for slideshows. Now I need to burn it to a cdr or dvd. I tried to follow your steps but had some problems. When I click on idvd and then One Step, it says that I need to hook up my camera or camcorder to it to start One Step. Gives me no other options like you have mentioned.
On iphoto I am able to click share from the menu bar and from there it gives me the option of idvd. would that work?

Thanks for your help. hate to loose everything or having to start over after working so hard on it!

"2. Go to File / One Step DVD from movie... from the menu bar. "

Make certain you went to the menu bar, not the button when iDVD opens for One Step.
