This tip comes from reader Luca who solved a problem that has been bugging me for ages.

When you create a slide show in iPhoto, you can set a sound track to play along with it. The music option shows your Garage Band projects and your iTunes Library playlists. Select a playlist and all the songs in the playlist are shown below. Select the song you want it it plays along with the Slideshow.

Ok. Great. Easy Cheezy. But what if you want more than one song to play? You can make the slideshow longer than the song, but once the song plays out it repeats. Or you can force the slideshow to be the length of your song but then you have a limit to how many photos the slideshow can have.

I've gotten so many requests for how to create a slideshow with more than one song in the soundtrack that I have looked around for other software besides iPhoto to do it. Nothing met my criteria for integration with the iPhoto libraray and ease of use, so I was back to square one.

Here is where Luca comes in. He sent me a suggestion that was the height of simplicity:

  1. Create a playlist in iTunes that contains the songs that you want for your slideshow.
  2. In the music setting of your slideshow in iPhoto, select just the name of the playlist at the top of the settings dialog. Don't select any of the songs in the playlist below.
Thanks, Luca!

Once you get your slideshow together, check out this tip to burn your slideshow to DVD so you can watch it on a regular TV.

What about....

I'm creating a single slide show, but with 3 distinct sections. For each section, I want to have different music. I also want each section to take as long as its song.

Here's what I'm thinking....

1. Create 3 separate slide shows, each with the desired track.
2. Export to QT or something
3. Import into iMovie or iDVD and make a DVD out of the slide show.

Do you think this will work or is there a better way?

That sounds pretty good.

Import your 3 slideshows into iMovie and add them together to make one movie. Then export it to iDVD

You can modify the steps in this tip a bit to make it all happen

You need to click on the first song and then highlight the whole list. If you don't highlight the entire list only the first song will play.
