What I find to be cumbersome about the new combined Address and Search field in Safari 6 is that all of the functionality of both the old web address field and old search field have to exist in the one field.

One things that is a bit tricky to locate in the new combined address and search field is the list of your recent searches. Here's where to find them.

Prior to Safari 6, to see your recent searches, you would click the magnifying glass in the search field and your recent searches would appear in a dropdown list.

In Safari 6, you also click the magnifying glass to see a list of recent searches. The problem is that the magnifying glass isn't always there.

To see the magnifying glass icon in Safari 6, the address and search field must be blank. You can either open a new, empty Tab or you can click anywhere on the currently showing address and hit the Delete key.

(Actually, the address and search field isn't exactly blank. It says "Search Google or enter and address" but this text disappears when you type your first character.)

NOTE: You aren't restricted to searching with Google. When you see the Recent Searches drop down list, there is an option at the bottom of the list to set your search engine to Google, Yahoo! or Bing.
