When you are naming people in Faces in iPhoto, you might make a small change to how you name a certain person. For example, you might name the person "Chris" in one place and "chris" in another. This will result in two different Polaroids on the Faces cork board for the same person, one named "Chris" and one named "chris".
Here's how to fix things.
You can easily merge these two "different" people into one by selecting both Polaroids (click one and then Command-click the other – both will have a blue border around them). Then right-click on one of the selected faces and choose Merge People.
You can also drag one Polaroid onto another to merge them. You will get a warning message before iPhoto does the merge just in case you did the drag and drop by accident.
When the Faces are combined into one Polaroid, the combined Faces group takes the name of the Polaroid closest to the top of the cork board. If that is the "wrong" name, drag the Polaroids around the cork board so the one with the correct name shows first before you do the merge. You can also click the name on any of the Polaroid to edit the name.
