Creating a Signature for Your Email Messages

Many people have "signatures" at the end of their emails that contain contact info, quotes, photos or other content.

They don't type in this info for every email they send. Instead, they create a signature that is appended to the end of every emai.

Here's how to set up email signatures in Mail.

To add a signature to your email messages:

  1. Go to Mail's Preferences.
  2. Go to the Signatures view.
  3. Click the + button to create a new signature
  4. In the space on the right, type your quote or drag and drop a photo from the Finder or iPhoto.
People use all sorts of different signatures to end their emails. For example:
  • The funny quote: "Never go to bed mad. Stay up and fight." (Phyllis Diller)
  • The inspirational quote: "You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." (Dr. Suess)
  • A photo of themselves
  • A scan of their signature
  • You can also put a vCard in your signature that lets a person import your contact info to their computer with a single click. See this tip for more info.

You can have as many signatures as you wish. In the Signatures view of Mail's Preferences you can select which signature is the default. When you create a new message, you can also choose which signature to use.

I also suggest that you check the box Place signature above quoted text. This way when you reply to a message, Your signature goes between the text you write and the quoted text from the message you are replying to. If you don't check this box, your signature goes all the way at the end of a reply email below all the quoted text and it is unlikely that anyone will ever notice it.

Easy-cheezy - just copy the image and paste it into the signature edit box or just drag a photo in

Do you know if you can link an image in a Mail signature, so if someone clicks the image in the signature it sends the User to a website?

I've looked but it doesn't seem to be doable which i find odd.

Thanks Michael
