New Folder with Selection Click to see a larger image
Speaking of trying to bring order to chaos, here's a quick little trick to combine a group of files into a new folder in one easy step.
Select multiple files that are in a single folder.
Right-Click on one of the selected files.
Choose New Folder with Selection from the context menu that pops up.
A new folder is created in the folder you are working in with the name New Folder With Items. That's probably not your preferred name for that folder, but the name is highlighted so all you have to do is start typing to give the new folder a better name.
Here's a quick reminder on how to select multiple items in the Finder:
To select continuous items (ie, items 4-8 on a list), click the first item to select it and then Shift-click on the last item. The first, last and all the items in between become selected.
To select items that aren't together, click the first item to select it and then Command-click on other items to select them as well.
