Meet the successor to Basics4Mac!

I started Basics4Mac in 2007 with the simple mission to provide tips and Mac help to people who were still getting to know their new Mac or just wanted to learn more about the one they had. It was a great 6 year run, but then...

iPhones and iPads turned the computer world upside down.

I never could find a way to shoehorn iPhone and iPad tips into a site called Basic4Mac. With a loss of focus, Basics4Mac fell to the side. I think it is kind of funny that the last article I wrote for Basics4Mac was called "Do you still need a Mac?"

Well, I'm back with an exciting new website called Apple Help Express. The new site covers all of Apple's products keeps the same mission of bringing you exactly the information you need to best use your Mac, iPhone, iPad, AppleTV, AppleWatch, etc!

Removing Unwanted Bookmarks Bar Items in Safari

Clear out Bookmarks you no longer want

The space directly under the Address bar in Safari is called the Bookmarks Bar. You can place Bookmarks and Bookmark Folders there for easy access. (You can tell if an item on the Bookmarks Bar is a Bookmark Folder by the downward pointing triangle after the name.)

Over time you may change your mind about what you want on the Bookmarks Bar.

When you first open Safari on a new user account, Safari has a default set of Bookmarks on the Bookmarks Bar such as Yahoo!, Google Maps or YouTube. If you aren't interested in keeping these on the Bookmarks Bar, you can remove them to make room for your own preferences.

To get rid of the Bookmarks and Bookmarks Folders you don't want, just drag them off the bar, just like you do with unwanted Dock icons. (See this tip.)

Use care, however. If you drag a Bookmarks Folder off the Bookmarks Bar, all of the Bookmarks in that folder are deleted.

If you want to remove a specific Bookmark from a Bookmarks Folder on the Bookmarks Bar, a couple of extra steps are necessary:

  1. Click the book icon at the very left of the Bookmarks Bar. This will open your Bookmarks organizer.
  2. Make sure that Bookmarks Bar is selected under the COLLECTIONS header of the left pane. This will show all the Bookmarks of your Bookmarks Bar.
  3. Open the folder you want to change by double clicking on it.
  4. Select the bookmark you want to remove and press the Delete Key.
